Model Programs

The Secretary of Education identified a national need to address high-risk drinking and violent behavior among college students. To be given an award under this program, campuses were required to describe an innovative program or policy that was integrated into an overall comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention effort. These institutions also had to provide evidence that the innovative program or policy was effective in reducing problems resulting from alcohol or other drug use. The award-winning programs and policies are described in the links below. Each model program is described as it was at the time of its award.

The particular programs described in this section have been recognized as effective alcohol and other drug prevention efforts. However, the U.S. Department of Education does not intend to imply that alcohol and other drug use or related problems at these institutions are any more or less pervasive than at other campuses.
