Freshmen at U.C. Berkeley can find out alcohol tolerance from DNA test

“Incoming freshmen at the University of California, Berkeley, will get more than a new roommate and a card key for the dorm this fall. They can find out their alcohol tolerance from a genetic test.”

“The test - a cotton swab that students can brush across the inside of their cheek to get a DNA sample, send it in to a lab, and find out information about how they metabolize alcohol - is the first time that a university is providing voluntary mass genetic testing, according to the New York Times. It also will let the students learn about how they regulate lactose and folates. All the testing is confidential.”
