Bystander Intervention Training Institute

About the Training Institute: Research indicates that many alcohol-, other drug-, and violence-related incidents are witnessed by individuals other than those involved. Bystander intervention programs teach the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required to intervene safely in these situations and to help build a climate in which incidents are less likely to occur. This training for higher education professionals will provide participants with knowledge and skills to develop and implement a bystander intervention program as part of a comprehensive campus-based prevention effort. Participants will be asked to focus their program plan on one of the following specific campus problems: sexual and/or relationship violence, alcohol and other drug abuse, or hazing. The Center may be able to accommodate additional focus areas. Please see the application for more information.
What the Institute is not: This event is not a train-the-trainer for any individual bystander intervention program.
Who should attend: Campus prevention professionals interested in developing or improving a bystander intervention program. Campus teams are encouraged. Also welcome are national and international fraternity and sorority headquarters staff serving U.S. institutions that have an understanding of how campus-based prevention education applies to their work and can make the translation for work at headquarters level or as part of a campus-based initiative (again, prevention staff teams are encouraged.)
